Treatment Modalities

My Approach

Establishing therapeutic alliance with my clients is the foundation of my psychotherapy work. I am a strong advocate for cultural competency, and my approach is client-centered, collaborative, and evidence-based.
My psychotherapy framework includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), elements of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Informed Therapy. In addition to my private practice, I have worked at an accredited children’s mental health agency in Toronto for over 14 years providing individual and family therapy as well as psycho-educational support groups for parents and youth.
Earlier in my career, I have also worked as an addiction counsellor at an ethno-specific mental health agency for 4 years, providing addiction counselling to youth using a harm reduction approach. I also provide therapy and psychoeducation in Dari for those clients requiring language specific support.

Clinical Approaches

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)– helps people understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected.

CBT is often used to treat anxiety, depression, stress, and many other mental health issues.

Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)– is a type of therapy that focuses on solutions rather than problems. Instead of digging deep into past issues, it helps people identify their strengths and build on what’s already working in their lives.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)– is a therapy modal that emphasizes strengthening and understanding the emotional bond in relationships. It explores attachment patterns and helps individuals understand their emotional responses. It focuses on creating a secure and safe connection through communication and emotional expression.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)– is designed to help people manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and cope with distress. It’s a modified form of CBT but with a stronger focus on acceptance and emotional regulation.

Trauma-Informed Therapy– is an approach that recognizes how past trauma affects a person’s mental. emotional, and physical well-being, and adjusts therapy to avoid re-traumatization while promoting healthy coping mechanisms, safety and healing.

Therapy is a deep personal journey! The process is unique to each individual- shaped by their experiences, emotions, goals, and challenges.
